We all know that Wayne is the best hockey player that ever played the game of hockey. He is an amazing man on and off the ice. During his career he has played on four teams. No matter where he played, he always tried his hardest.This is what makes him "The Great One".

The Great One Retires
Slowly circling the rink, soaking in the farewells from his fans, teammates, even opponents, Wayne Gretzky didn�t want it to end. Smiling through tears during four final laps he knew that this was the right decision. Every player has to retire some time in their life and this was the time for Wayne. Wayne Gretzky officialy retired from the NHL on April 18, 1999. He will always be "The Great One".

About Wayne
Wayne was born in Brantford, Ontario on January 26, 1961. In 1978 he began his career in the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers hockey team. Gretzky later on led the Oilers to four Stanley Cup championships (1984, 1985, 1987, 1988).
He was then traded to the Los Angeles Kings before the 1989-1990 season.
During the 1988-1989 season became the highest scorer in the history of the NHL.He won the Art Ross Trophy for leading the league in scoring nine times (1981-1987, 1990, 1991).
He also won the Hart Trophy as the league's most valuable player nine times (1979-1987, 1989). In 1994 he passed Canadian hockey player and high scorer Gordie Howe by setting a new record for the most career goals in the NHL. Wayne was traded to the St. Louis Blues in 1996, and from there to the New York Rangers.
